Mexican Pita Breads
Mexican Pita Breads
Did you know that our can purchase our delicious Anat pitas from selected supermarkets? This means you can take them home to fill with your favourite fillings. We love these Mexican pitas and they go perfectly with a frozen Margarita on a warm summer’s day.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 30ml olive oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 500g lean beef mince (or other mince of your choice)
- 50ml chutney
- 50ml tomato paste
- 1 can baked beans
- 1-2 chilies
- 4 spring onions, chopped
- Lettuce, shredded
- 4 Anat pita breads (brown or white)
This is what you need to do to make your Mexican pitas:
Step 1: Heat the oil in a saucepan and sauté your onion until soft. You can then add your mince to brown, while stirring continuously.
Step 2: Once you have browned the mince you can add your tomato paste, chutney and chilli and season with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Then add your baked beans and your spring onions and simmer for 3-5 minutes.
Step 3: While your mince is cooking you can warm your pitas in the oven. Then cut them in half to form pockets for your filling. Only warm your pitas when you are ready to eat.
Step 4: Once you are happy with your mince, add some lettuce to your pita pocket and then fill with the mince mixture.
These Mexican pitas are quick and easy to make and are the perfect finger food for a summer’s day spent outdoors. You can use different meats for your mince, thus catering for more people. You could even use soya mince for vegetarians. Our pitas are delicious and we have a brown option for those who want to eat a little healthier. We are so confident in them that we use them at our own Anat stores across South Africa.
